It is for your good that I am going away..

Because if I do not go away, the Comforter (Counselor, Helper, Advocate, Intercessor, Strengthener, Standby) will not come to you [into close fellowship with you]; but if I go away, I will send Him to you [to be in close fellowship with you].

Until recently I had not really fully understood these words. I often longed to experience the Power of the Spirit whilst ignoring His daily presence.. The person I was intended to have close fellowship with was generally left out in the cold - not that He withdrew... just that I acted as though He was not there in my day to day life! Perhaps I can best describe it that I to 'use' Him on special occasions! (Ouch!)

These words of Paul as interpreted in the Message were pertinent:

Eph 4:30
Don't grieve God. Don't break his heart. His Holy Spirit, moving and breathing in you, is the most intimate part of your life, making you fit for himself. Don't take such a gift for granted.

Yes!! Imagine being ignored. It can really hurt. Sometimes I forget that we are made in the image of God and that HE as a person has feelings too. I have been thinking about this a bit lately from the angle that the Lord allowed himself to be mistreated and how He may have felt. I always assumed that He was somehow above emotional pain of this sort. Hmmm....

Yeah the whole concept of God (Holy Spirit) being a person and having feelings etc not just some almighty cosmic force is worth contemplating...
