Lazarus’ miracle is one of those miracles that very many people would want to see happen to day. Lazarus had to die so that the glory of the living God would be glorified and for the purpose of showing that Jesus was a true Son of God.
In Uganda I have seen many Lazarus and they have so much touched many peoples’ lives thereby coming to Christ. A good friend of mine lost both parents to AIDS and so did his older and young siblings but him. All the siblings contracted AIDS through Mother- to-Child during birth and this is a common thing in many developing countries. Wilson suffered a lot and he ended up on the streets of Kampala begging for food and he would sleep in boxes on the streets. To cut the long story short, Wilson got to know God and he has no AIDS and he is the best Ugandan Gospel Artist and has a big Church. Most of his songs are about his testimony and they have touched very many people thereby coming to Christ to find happiness. If Wilson was not a Lazarus people, some people wouldn’t know Christ. So, Wilson had to go through all those hard times for the purpose of Glorifying God and for people to know that above the blue sky we have a King who never forgets His children and never goes to sleep.
In Verse 39,we see how hopeless Martha was after Lazarus was dead (4 days), at this point in time she knew Lazarus was dead and stinking. This reminds me of how we tend to limit God’s capability yet He promised us to take care of us at all times.
God bless you.

this is so encouraging
I'm always curious to examine the details surrounding Jesus' miracles. In this case, Jesus didn't touch Lazarus at all and most probably couldn't even see him when he commanded him to come out from the cave.
As a complete novice in this area, I wonder whether the "details" are influenced by words of knowledge received from the Father. Also, how much did the miracle rely on Jesus' faith and how much did the faith of the witnesses played a part (hence the statement of Jesus in verse 40)
Anyone care to comment?
Funny that I never have analysed Jesus miracles because I just take it that the Creator of the Universe can do whatever He wants, however He wants.
But I have often doubted that the same would apply to ME even though He clearly says - we will do more than He!
Jesus clearly had PURPOSE in this miracle "So he told them plainly, “Lazarus is dead. And for your sakes, I’m glad I wasn’t there, for now you will really believe. Come, let’s go see him.”
I think miracles often happen to provide evidence of God sovereign power over His creation. Generally in order to bring about belief in God (supporting the Gospel), sometimes to encourage believers in times of great trial.
Clearly - continuous miracles of healing amongst believers would have us living eternally here - and Heaven Forbids (Thank God!)!
Maybe I dont see miracles more often because I am not out there in the harvest field gathering sheaves!
