Day 20 - Luke 20

Today I would like to let Heidi speak to us. I quote from page 85:

“I had come to a place where I realized that God’s presence was worth more to me than life itself. This is not a joke or exaggeration. I am seriously saying that Jesus’ presence is worth more to me than anything – that his love and his precious blood are worth more to me than life itself. I don’t see the point of prosperity and wellbeing in life if all it does is distract you from Jesus!”

And Jesus… “The stone the builders rejected has become the capstone. Everyone who falls on that stone will be broken to pieces, but he on whom it falls will be crushed.”

In this chapter Jesus continues to speak with “authority” and wisdom and so “no-one dared to ask him any more questions”. They were “astonished by his answers”.

Found a verse related to the prosperity gospel, and what we are looking at. Came across it when searching for the memory work for Junior Church. They are learning about thanksgiving and contentment this week. This is from the Contemporary English version and expresses things clearly.
1 Tim 6 v5 on..
" These people think religion is supposed to make you rich. 6 And religion does make your life rich, by making you content with what you have. 7 We didn't bring anything into this world, and we won't take anything with us when we leave. 8 So we should be satisfied just to have food and clothes. 9 People who want to be rich fall into all sorts of temptations and traps. They are caught by foolish and harmful desires that drag them down and destroy them. 10 The love of money causes all kinds of trouble. Some people want money so much that they have given up their faith and caused themselves a lot of pain."
